FX training moving forward
So with the Imbue Fx tutorial set out of the way I'm now moving onto other things.
I am really looking at expanding my skills in UDK CASCADE, Photoshop, After Effects and fume fx for smoke and fire flip book creation.
The other week Allan Mckay had a sale on his fume fx core fundamentals series which I picked up So I am going to be working through that.
http://www.allanmckay.com/allanmckay/
Also on the Games FX side I will be focusing on Visual FX for Games DVD as its the last games fx set of tutorials I can find :P.
http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/930/Visual-FX-for-Games.
Im expecting this next set of tutorials to keep me occupied for the next 2 weeks plus especially seeing as I think my laptop is going to have a lot of "Fun" with all the fume fx simulations.

Productive week of FX
So over the past week I have worked my way through all of the Imbue FX tutorials i mentioned in previous post
I am really impressed with how much I learnt in cascade and material editor, I also picked up a lot of tricks for photoshop.
In most cases I even recreated all of the textures used in tutorial set myself so I knew I could make them myself.
Below I've posted a bunch of screenshots of some of the particles I created. They look a lot better in motion though so i've attached link to youtube video
Unfortunately the sparks refused to render correctly while recording. but rendered fine while fraps wasnt recording wierd.

Awesome VFX tutorial for learning Cascade
Hey Everyone,
Wow its been a while since I posted an update. Things have been really hectic the last 9 months since I started as a Junior VFX artist at funcom.
On the bright side game i'm working on "The Secret World" is looking kickass and I reckon it's going to have a very strong release which is great :D.
Anyway i've wanted to get my hands dirty with some more UDK cascade particle work since I use in house tools at work and I stumbled upon this website
Imbue FX
They have an awesome beginners tutorial to help people get used to not only cascade but creating particles in general.
I've been using the tutorial set to get used to making particles in UDK and am really enjoying it so far and would highly recommend it to anyone else looking at learning cascade. :)

First Fume FX test
So in an attempt to motivate myself I have started mucking around with fume fx. I have been interested in it for a long time.
I'm really keen on how to do fire and smoke in fume so I can render out some kickass textures to be used in UDK.
anyway I booted it up today and had my first go at making something in fume fx
It's really amazing how easy it is to make something look good :). Still could use some work on smoke colour etc though.
Also I recently bought the book elemental magic which is all about creating 2d special effects. It has a lot of concepts that still translate over to 3d and the thing i love the most is throughout the book they deconstruct each effect they do and show how everything works when compared to nature.
I'd reccomend it to any fx artist

Photoshop Smoke
So I've been doing some mucking around this weekend trying to improve my Photoshop skills by making some smoke in Photoshop using a combination of various filters.
The results turned out a bit meh but still a step in right direction.Think ill stick to using photo reference stuff in future.
Im really trying to get myself motivated to be more proactive and study more.
Blue wierd smoke
More realistic smoke

VFX stuff
So its been a while since i've made an update. Things have been pretty busy over the last month with starting a new job as junior fx artist.
Recently I been doing a lot of research on vfx and am working on improving my skills in photoshop, after effects and 3d s max when it comes to visual effects.
I have found a few websites such as
www.videocopilot.net has lots of awesome after effect tutorials
http://www.allanmckay.com/allanmckay/
Really love the fume fx stuff and would love to learn more about it.
Either way i've got a week off work before things get really busy, so im looking at using this week to hopefully work on some personal projects.
So keep an eye on the blog for more frequent updates
